The Spirit Prayer

Some people find patterns of prayer based on acrostics helpful. The Spirit Prayer is one example of an acrostic prayer.

Silent Contemplation

Be quiet in the presence of God and think about how wonderful he is and the great things he has done. You might find one or more of these suggestions helps you to focus:

Read Psalm 8

Light a candle

Look at a flower or a picture

Presence

Ask God to be present as you pray. How do you feel in his presence? Do you feel awe and wonder? Praise God and tell him how wonderful he is. Maybe you feel gratitude. If so say a prayer of thanksgiving. Perhaps you realise your own imperfections. Say a prayer of confession and receive God's forgiveness.

Intercession

Spend time praying for other people. You can pray for people you know personally as well as for people whose stories are in the news.

Response

Tell God how much you love him. Express your gratitude. Give thanks. Dedicate your life to him.

Individual Concerns

Pray about the things that are on your mind at the moment.

Trust

Place yourself and the people, situations and concerns you have prayed for in God's hands.
